a 8th min MI goal 29th min Lillian (Chloe) 44th min MI goal 53rd min MI goal a "The sweet is never as sweet without the sour" --sofa philosopher and acting giant Tom Cruise in mega-mediocre movie Vanilla Sky a I can't wait until we taste the "sweet" again, because right now it feels like I'm chewing raw lemons with a lime chaser. We lost to Mercer Island. Badly. 1-3 final score. Does this mean that we're a bad team? Absolutely not. We have the same talented roster that put together an impressive 5-game winning streak to start our Kingco league season. But collectively we had a very bad night. And against good teams, a bad night generally means that you have to watch your rivals celebrate as you pack your bags and take a frustrating bus ride back home. Sour. Super sour. a But sport for almost every team (with notable exceptions being the '72 Miami Dolphins, Arsenal's Invincibles and multiple USWNT's World Cup campaigns) will teach lessons about loss during a season. It's part of the experience. And it can hurt. It's unfortunate that we have to wait until next Tuesday to retake the soccer field, because I know that every player will be eager to replace the sour with some sweet. The best way to recover from a tough loss is to go again. To get back up, refocus, and step back onto the field with renewed determination. And so we will. Next Tuesday versus Juanita. a What are the lessons from this game? Coach better. Play better. Compete better. The highlights from tonight's game are few, but Lillian did tie the game up at 1-1 with a nice striker's goal in the 29th minute from a Nova corner and Chloe assist. And Cammy came into the game in the 65th minute...as emergency goalkeeper, and did a great job when asked to play out of position when we really needed her. a The rest of the game was mostly forgettable from our perspective. We failed to keep possession. We gave the ball away too easily. We were second-best in almost every tackle. And we were out-coached. There were no silver-linings in the statistics. We were outshot for the first time this season. We were poor, and we got beat. That being said, we know we have the ingredients within this team to be better. Much much better. It will be up to the coaching staff, and each player, to respond. a We'll resume training on Wednesday with the aim of turning cliched "lemons into lemonade." We'll need a truckload of sugar, and a whole lot of sweat, focus and determination. Comments are closed.
