11/27/2021 Bellevue vs Juanita 9-27-18Juanita 1-0 Bellevue
Soccer can be a cruel game sometimes. Despite playing some of the best overall soccer of the season that resulted in a 25-5 overall shot advantage, we lost to a well-organized and spirited Juanita team. There are no excuses, we had enough quality on the field to win the game, but it has been a challenging week losing our two senior captains to an emergency appendectomy and concussion respectively. But every team in the league has to deal with injuries and unplanned challenges, and for 79 minutes of our game against Juanita, I thought our girls adjusted well to a more make-shift line-up and played beautifully. In fact, our overall play was actually better than in either of our previous 3-0 victories; however, results matter. And we didn't get the result. And now we play our arch-rival and defending 3A state-champions from Mercer Island. We'll be looking for the players to take the positives from a disappointing evening, learn from our errors, and prepare in earnest for our big game next Tuesday. The Juanita loss was cruel, but not fatal. We will pick ourselves up and be ready for the trip to MI next week. Highlights. We called up two players to help fill the gap from Del & IzzyB's absences, and both girls contributed to our solid team play on Thursday: Imme and Rebekah have had amazing seasons so far and I'm thankful that we have such quality to draw on from our JV squad; our defensive shape and attitude was great all night, so much so that we had an almost stress-free night (until we didn't). It's the curse of playing in a defensive role: 99% can be great, but a 1% lapse can be cruel. But overall there's a lot to be encouraged about: Julia, Zoe, Imme, Kaatje and Claire were tough and joined the attack all night; our middies controlled the center with Court, Kendall, Halle, Audrey & AnnaB all contributing; and our wingers and strikers, Grace, Taylor, AllyS, Kaia, Claire, Malena and Rebekah, kept applying pressure in dangerous spaces.
