11/27/2021 Bellevue vs Interlake 10-10-19Bellevue 0-1 Interlake
We lost at Interlake. There are certainly lessons to be learned, but every technical and tactical issue seems trivial compared to headline that we didn't get the job done on a chilly evening against the Saints. Does it matter that our possession statistics and chances created were significantly better? Nope. Not even a little bit. I take full responsibility for the line-up choices, in-game substitutions and pre-game points of emphasis. It obviously could've been better. It should've been better. So after a period of frustration, then reflection, there is only one thing to be done when you have a bad game/workday/test: get back to work and do better the next time. The actual recap seems more like a formulaic sitcom script that you've already watched several times before: we played quite well in possession, gave up less than 4 chances all game, allowed a fluke goal in the 44th minute, and couldn't finish our numerous chances at the other end. Final whistle. Roll credits. Achingly familiar. And not going to be nominated for any Emmy awards for original screenplay. Oddly, our overall quality of play was good. We played organized defense. We bossed the midfield for most of the game. We created enough chances to win comfortably. But we didn't. But despite the dropped points this week, our place in the Kingco standings remains unchanged. We are solo 2nd. Just ahead of Liberty in the standings. However, we now move into the teeth of the back half of our league schedule, with upcoming games versus 1st place LW at home, and 3rd place Liberty away. Both will be excellent opportunities to bounce back with a good performance and put the upset at Interlake well behind us. No disrespect intended to Interlake, they were feisty, organized, and finished their chance with lethal efficiency. They earned their win. But it was clear from the celebrations afterwards, this was an upset. And now we move on. And get back to work. Comments are closed.
