Just like our players do each game, the coaching staff always covers for each other. Unlike my fake Hazen recap earlier in the week, we actually played soccer. It was a rare Saturday league kick-off, for a game that had to be rescheduled due to the air quality issues. The weather was perfect, if by perfect you consider late October rain with chilly temperatures, perfect. There were a few more oddities in our game against Hazen, including Bellevue wearing our "away white" uniforms in our home stadium. Why? Well, with the entire western side of our state trying to reschedule high school soccer games due to smoke, the Renton School District simply couldn't find a field, or referees, to host the game at Hazen. And so offered our stadium as a back-up plan that because the primary plan. So on Saturday, we were technically the "away" team., and therefore wore our "whites". Both games were eirily similar: quick starts, header goals, then center-backs at striker in the second half, and identical 5-0 scorelines. In the JV game, Morgan got a brace, Kaitlyn got 2 header goals, and Camille scored a break-away goal just before halftime. Raina had 2 assists with Arianna and Amy also setting up teammates for goals (I missed the assist for Morgan's opening goal?). On the varsity side, Lillian bagged a hatrick (all to the same left side netting), Lily scored a header and Cami banged in a ferocious goal into the upper right corner from her left wing position. 2 assists for Leah as well as assists from Maddy, Lexi and Hinana. And a marvelous save from Sabrina to keep our shutout, from a shot that looked destined to find the upper corner. As well as both teams played on Saturday, my pride in our program peaked on Sunday as we held our annual free BUFC clinic at Bellevue Stadium. Over 45 girls ages 5-10 showed up with their shiny purple soccer balls, oversized shin guards, BUFC uniforms and beaming smiles. Our girls were the coaches, and did a wonderful job teaching a few skills, playing a few games, and inspiring countless hugs, high-fives and giggles. Huge thank you to Chris Colby at BUFC, our Booster Club volunteers and coaching staff for helping organize such a special event. I am so proud of our girls for giving back to their community with the gift of their time and energy for the next generation of Bellevue girls soccer. This week we conclue the 2022 regular season with games at Mercer Island on Tuesday (5:30 & 7:30) and at home versus Liberty for our senior night celebration (5:30 & 8pm). Note the later start for varsity on Thursday as we make room for the ceremony to honor our class of '23. A very compelling set of games to finish our season. See you there. Comments are closed.
