11/27/2021 Bellevue vs Blanchett 9-7-21BHS 0-0 Blanchett
a "We didn't lose the game, we just ran out of time" Vince Lombardi I don't know if the quote above was actually Lombardi, but I know how he must have felt if he did say it. Last night I felt like we won the game. But we didn't. We just ran out of time. a Overall, I couldn't have been more pleased about our performance vs. Blanchet...except for one thing: finishing. In a game in which we launched 23 shots / 5 corners at the Blanchet goal (allowing only 5/1 in response, all of which came very late in the contest), we simply couldn't find the back of the net. Full credit to the BB defense, and especially to their goalkeeper, they were tough and organized throughout. Blanchet is traditionally one of the best teams from the Metro league, so I knew it would be a good test for our girls; we passed the test, but we know that to accomplish our lofty team goals for this season, we'll need to have a better conversation rate on goal. Simple. a Every other facet of our game sparkled last night. Defensively we were stifling all over the field, hunting the ball in packs and pressuring Blancett into poor passes and hopeful long balls--which caused very little trouble to our back-line. Our possession and movement off the ball was excellent as well: patient, but quick and decisive going forward. Every single BHS player who stepped on the field last night gave us valuable minutes. The bench was positive and energetic. The crowd was loud, supportive and created a great atmosphere. a We simply ran out of time. And we tied. a We have another non-league game at home on Thursday vs. Newport High school. I'd take the same performance we got last night...with just one minor improvement: the final scoreboard.
